Are real estate agent fees negotiable?
The answer is yes. Everything is negotiable in a real estate transaction, including a low commission realtor (or Real estate Agent), which in most parts of the country is 6 percent of the sales price, usually split between the listing agent (seller’s agent) and buyer’s agent. If you were to ask a handful of top-rated real estate agents from around the country, here’s a sampling of what these pros would most likely say ;

Although it never hurts to ask if an agent will consider a lower fee, there’s no guarantee that the agent will be willing to do so. Most agents are investing considerable time and leveraging their unique resources to provide real value. They’ve worked hard for what they do and feel that the structure is a fair split.
With that said, it’s also important to note that some agents do have more flexibility to negotiate their commission than others. For example, brokerages may have a minimum that they require their agents to hold out for. And some agents work for companies who take a percentage of every commission they bring in; these agents may be less willing or able to negotiate. The Broker is the one who makes the decisions about low commission realtors in their firm.
